It cannot be denied that in addition to BPPM there are certain threats to the unique lake however it should be noted that the mill used to be and is still the largest pollutant of the lake.
a) Ballast water discharge from vessels and oil pollution.
b) Uncontrolled mass tourism.
c) Contamination received with the River Selenga stream flow (see reports of the RF Ministry of Natural Resources "On the state of Lake Baikal and its conservation measures").
d) Atmospheric transfer of pollutions from Shelekhov-Angarsk industrial hub and the City of Irkutsk.
e) Pollution from sanitary sewage of population centers located on the Lake Baikal waterside.
f) Poaching.
g) Deforestation in the lake flood basin and forest fires.
